Community Partnerships with Schools,
Government, Business, NGO’s
and Universities
Kids Sports is always looking for community partners, because we believe that in doing things together with others, we can affect greater change for a healthier and happier society! We currently work in partnership with Schools, Councils, government agencies, community organisations, businesses, and Universities.
Schools
Kids Sports enjoys healthy partnerships with many schools throughout Qld. These partnerships are strengthened when Kids Sports and schools work together to apply for various Government grants which enable the school to receive free Kids Sports programs. The wealth of teaching skills, knowledge and experience that Kids Sports enjoys is extremely beneficial in school settings in a number of ways…
- Professional Development for Teachers - The ‘teacher-friendly’ nature of the Kids Sports program, makes it ideal for up-skilling teachers to provide the recommended physical activity requirements for their students.
- In-curriculum time physical activity sessions e.g. PE lessons, P-3 sport sessions, sessions for children who don’t participate in inter school sport, Smart Moves sessions.
- Outside School Hours Care- physical activity sessions that are fun and motivating for all children.
- The Walking School Bus - linking students from school to the free Council-funded Kids Sports session in their local park.
Kids Sports programs are at the forefront of being able to address the five Key Components of the Smart Moves initiative.
- Required time for physical activity .
- Improved access to resources for physical activity
- Increased capacity to deliver physical activity
- Professional Development
- Build community partnerships to enhance physical activity
Interested schools are invited to discuss these opportunities further.

Universities
We provide practical learning opportunities for Student teachers in education or sports related fields through placements in programs such as Parent n Toddler Sports, Little Kids Sports, Big Kid Sports, Walking School Bus, Kite Making and Fun Day programs.
We encourage Universities to utilise our programs in any research or studies on related topics such as:
- Inactivity and obesity in school children
- Using sport/physical activitiy to build social capital
-
Advantages of daily exercise
- Negative effects of competition in Sports
- Family exercise
We believe that through research and gathering evidence we can constantly improve and continue to provide best practice programs.
Councils and Government Agencies
- Queensland Local Councils
Ongoing partnerships with Brisbane City Council, Gold Coast City Council, Moreton Bay Regional Council and Logan City Council has seen over 200 000 participants in a variety of Kids Sports programs in over 100 parks. Residents are discovering the lifelong benefits of participating in physical activity and improving eating habits.
- Varsity Lakes Community Renewal Program
The Varsity Lakes Community Renewal Program is funded by the Queensland Department of Housing. This initiative helps residents join in local planning and decision-making processes to improve responsiveness to community needs.
Kids Sports has become a major catalyst in the improvement in local residents’ quality of life by delivering the Active Families in Varsity Lakes which primarily aims to improve physical fitness and achieve other outcomes of joint parent and child exercise programs including; improved relationships and interaction of parents with their children, improved psychological well being, an increase in families actively exercising and playing together, and an increase in social interaction and support networks.
The Active Women in Varsity Lakes project was developed as a response to the lack of positive activities available for parents and their children in the Varsity Lakes renewal area.

Kids Sports is now an Area Coordinator for Heart Foundation Walking.
Heart Foundation Walking is Australia’s largest network of free community-based walking groups, led by volunteer Walk Organisers. Talk to us NOW if you would like to become involved!!
The aim of Heart Foundation Walking is to make regular physical activity enjoyable and easy, especially for people who are not used to being active. Over the last 10 years, more than 15,000 Australians have become more physically active through the Heart Foundation’s local walking groups. - The Koala Healthy Lifestyle Program
The Koala Healthy Lifestyle Program is evaluating a “Holistic Approach” to managing children aged 6 to 10 years who are overweight or obese. The program, which is free of any major costs to participating families, provides parents with information and strategies for promoting healthy eating and increasing physical activity in children. The potential benefits to participants include:
- Reduced body mass index
- Improved behaviour, emotional and social wellbeing in children
- Increased confidence and reduced stress in families
As this program is part of a long-term research study, we are also recruiting non-overweight children for a single assessment. For further information, please contact the KOALA Healthy Lifestyle Team.

Kids Sports has begun a relationship with the “Koala at Mater” program to assist in its mission and to provide access to free, inclusive physical activities for the children and families in its program.
- Northern Gold Coast Communities for Children
The Northern Gold Coast Communities for Children Initiative is an early intervention strategy that promotes the healthy development of children aged 0-5 in the Northern Gold Coast area (Oxenford, Coomera, Upper Coomera, Pimpama, Ormeau and Cedar Creek). Northern Gold Coast Communities for Children is funded by the Australian Government Family and Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FaCSIA) under the Stronger Families and Communities Strategy.
The vision of the Northern Gold Coast Communities for Children Initiative is to- “create a connected ‘child-friendly’ community, where young children and their families have greater self-reliance and self-determination and are provided with opportunities to maximise health and well-being, learning capacity, emotional support and community cohesion”.
Kids Sports has been instrumental in the goal of creating communities where parks are used, physical activity and fun becomes a regular part of life, children are encouraged out of cars and away from television by opportunities to learn and play together, and where the least resourced families can enjoy activities together and make friends.
- ‘Book a BBQ’ Fundraising/community building opportunities for local community groups
One of the Kids Sports aims is to connect local families to each other in local parks across South East Qld. We believe that by facilitating people to connect with each other and their local park, it helps families sustain an active and healthy lifestyle.
One of the ways we can do this is to provide an opportunity for families to eat together at the end of their active sessions in the park. This can also be the perfect opportunity for local community groups to use as a fundraiser, so if you have a school, or community group in the local area where we run park activities and are interested in organising a BBQ, please contact us.
Businesses
Sponsorships / Advertise with Kids Sports
Promote your healthy business via the Kids Sports network
Kids Sports produces thousands of flyers each term to tell families about Kids Sports programs. There is an opportunity for businesses and organisations to promote themselves with their logo and contact details on these flyers. Flyers go to families in communities across areas of Queensland, through their local schools and Childcare Centres. The fee for inserting a business logo will depend on the event or whether in-kind donations are being offered (such as boxes of fruit etc)
Please Note: There are strict criteria for acceptance of business sponsorships in line with our values and aims. Please contact us if you are interested.
